Chad Gaylord Smith (born October 25, 1961) is an American musician who is the current drummer of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers, which he joined in 1988. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Smith is also the drummer of the hard rock supergroup Chickenfoot, formed in 2008, and is currently the drummer of the all-instrumental outfit Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats, who formed in 2007. As one of the most highly sought-after drummers, Smith has recorded with Glenn Hughes, Johnny Cash, John Fogerty, the Dixie Chicks, Jennifer Nettles, Kid Rock, Jake Bugg, The Avett Brothers, and Joe Satriani. In 2010, joined by Dick Van Dyke and Leslie Bixler, he released Rhythm Train, a critically acclaimed children's album which featured Smith singing and playing various instruments.
Widely regarded as one of rock music's best drummers, Spin magazine placed Smith at #10 on their list of the '100 Greatest Drummers of Alternative Music' in May 2013. Readers of UK-based Rhythm magazine ranked Smith and Red Hot Chili Pepper bassist Flea the fourth-greatest rhythm section of all time in their June 2013 issue. The drummer is also known for his charity work especially with young musicians. He has been a lobbyist in support of music education in U.S. public schools. Smith is also widely known for the strong resemblance between himself and comedian Will Ferrell, which has led to various comparisons over the years and eventually led to a joking public feud and drum battle for charity on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in May 2014, which led straight into the Red Hot Chili Peppers performing a cover of Blue Öyster Cult's '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' in the show as a reference to the Saturday Night Live 'More Cowbell' skit (in which Ferrell played fictional cowbell player Gene Frenkle). Smith is also the host of the PBS concert series, Landmarks Live in Concert, which began in January 2017.
Dave NavarroDave 'The Machine' Navarro (born June 7, 1967) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, presenter and actor.
Navarro is a member of the alternative rock band Jane's Addiction (four studio albums) and a former member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (one album). He also released one solo album Trust No One (2001). Navarro has also been a member of the Jane's Addiction spin-off bands, Deconstruction and The Panic Channel. AllMusic's Greg Prato described him as 'one of alternative rock's first true guitar heroes', with an eclectic playing style that merges heavy metal, psychedelia, and modern rock.'He's one of the last great guitarists,' says Henry Rollins, former Black Flag singer, who saw him playing with Jane's Addiction. Navarro is also host and one of the judges on Ink Master, an American tattoo competition reality show now in its twelfth season on Paramount Network.
I'm with You (album)I'm with You is the tenth studio album by the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The album was released by Warner Bros. Records on August 26 in Europe and on August 29 in the US. The album made its debut at number one in 18 countries including the United Kingdom, while reaching number two in the United States and Canada.
Produced by Rick Rubin, I'm with You was the band's first studio album since 2006's Stadium Arcadium, and its first to feature guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, following the departure of John Frusciante in 2009. It is also the final collaboration between Red Hot Chili Peppers and producer Rubin, whose relationship began with their fifth studio album Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). The album received mostly favorable reviews, with many praising newcomer Josh Klinghoffer for breathing new life into the veteran group. The album featured four singles, including alternative number-one hit, 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie,' 'Monarchy of Roses,' 'Look Around' and 'Brendan's Death Song.' 'Did I Let You Know' was released exclusively in Brazil thanks to response from a poll voted on by the fans, though it was not considered a proper single. A Rolling Stone Reader's Poll named I'm with You the 8th best album of 2011 and the album was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
Red Hot Chili Peppers discographyThe American funk rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers since 1984 has released eleven studio albums, three live albums, 12 compilation albums, eight video albums, five extended plays, 44 singles, and 47 music videos. To date, the band has sold over 80 million albums worldwide. They have been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards, of which they have won three. The band currently holds the record for most number one singles (13), most cumulative weeks at number one (87) and most top-10 songs (25) on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers released their first three studio albums—1984's The Red Hot Chili Peppers, 1985's Freaky Styley, and 1987's The Uplift Mofo Party Plan—to virtually no commercial success during the mid to late 1980s. It was not until their fourth studio album, 1989's Mother's Milk, that the band received critical attention when the album peaked at number 52 on the Billboard 200. After releasing their fifth studio album Blood Sugar Sex Magik in September 1991, the Red Hot Chili Peppers broke into the mainstream. 'Under the Bridge', the album's second single, peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. The album went on to sell over seven million copies in the United States (13 million worldwide) and became a foundation for alternative rock in the 1990s. Guitarist John Frusciante quit the band shortly thereafter in 1992 and was replaced by Arik Marshall who was fired in 1993 being briefly replaced by Jesse Tobias before Dave Navarro was hired that same year and with the band would release their sixth studio album, One Hot Minute, in September 1995. While the album was a sizable hit, peaking at number four on the US Billboard 200, it failed to match the success of its predecessor Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Navarro was fired in 1998 as the band was starting to work on their follow-up to One Hot Minute.
Frusciante rejoined the Chili Peppers in 1998, and they released their seventh studio album, Californication, in June 1999. It was a commercial success, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200 and being certified seven times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album spawned six singles, including the Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit 'Scar Tissue'. Californication was followed by By the Way in July 2002. By the Way peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and spawned commercially successful singles such as 'By the Way' and 'Can't Stop'. Stadium Arcadium, the band's ninth studio album, was released in May 2006. It became the band's first album to top the Billboard 200. Stadium Arcadium spawned three straight number-one hits on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart; 'Dani California' spent 14 consecutive weeks atop the chart and also peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. The band entered the studio in September 2010 to record their 10th studio album, and their first with guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. Recording was completed in March 2011, and the album, I'm with You, was released in August 2011. It peaked at number two on the Billboard 200; 'The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie', the album's lead single, peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band's 12th number one single on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, a record they currently hold. The band released their 11th studio album, their first with producer Danger Mouse, titled The Getaway in June 2016. Danger Mouse replaced Rick Rubin after 25 years and the previous six albums. 'Dark Necessities', the first single from the album, became the band's 13th number-one single on the Alternative Songs chart, a record they have held since 2006 and extended their lead over Linkin Park (11). The song was also the band's 25th top ten single on the Alternative Songs chart, extending their record over runner-up U2 (23). It also became only the fourth song ever to top the Mainstream Rock, Alternative Songs and Adult Alternative charts at the same time. The song became the Chili Peppers' 30th to chart inside the chart's top 20, which places them one entry below U2, with 3 The Chili Peppers moved into a tie for the third-most Alternative Songs visits, matching Foo Fighters' 31; the leader, again, is U2 at 41, while Pearl Jam has charted 38.The Getaway made its debut at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and it was the band's seventh straight album to chart within the top four dating back to 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
Stadium ArcadiumStadium Arcadium is the ninth studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The album was released on May 9, 2006, on Warner Bros. Records. The album produced five singles: 'Dani California', 'Tell Me Baby', 'Snow (Hey Oh)', 'Desecration Smile' and 'Hump de Bump', along with the first-ever fan-made music video for the song 'Charlie'. In the United States, Stadium Arcadium became the band's first number-one album. According to the band's vocalist Anthony Kiedis, Stadium Arcadium was originally scheduled to be a trilogy of albums each released six months apart, but was eventually condensed into a double album. The album is also the group's last to feature guitarist John Frusciante, who confirmed his departure from the band in 2009.
The album was critically praised for integrating musical styles from several aspects of the band's career. The album gained the band seven Grammy Award nominations in 2007 including an award for Best Rock Album and one for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package. Winning five out of seven Grammy Awards, it was the most nominations that the band had garnered in its 24-year career. Kiedis attributed the album's success to less-abrasive dynamics within the band, saying that the band's 'chemistry, when it comes to writing, is better than ever. There was always a struggle to dominate lyrically. But we are now confident enough in who we are, so everybody feels more comfortable contributing more and more valuable, quality stuff.'
